Shola Ameobi Biography

Shola Ameobi is one of the longest serving current Newcastle United players, having been with the club since he joined the academy in 1995. He signed a pre-contract in 1997, and made his senior debut in 2000. Though not a prolific scorer, Shola has 68 competative senior goals to his name, and is revered on Tyneside for his goalscoring record against Sunderland; he has the second most goals against the derby rivals with 6, sitting only behind Newcastle legend Jackie Milburn with 11.

Shola's greatest achievements other than this are arguable his three goals in Newcastle's Champions League campaign in the 2002-2003 season, where he scored agaist Barcelona and twice against Bayer Leverkusen.

Shola also has racked up 20 caps for England U21's, scoring 7 goals in that time.
